Militia files, 1835-1836.

The Governor of Ala. acts as the Commander-in-chief of the State Militia. This series consists of correspondence and reports relating to the Militia and general military affairs. Records relating specifically to the Creek Indian War of 1836 are found in Governor Clay's administrative files. Included are several morning reports; a report of ordinances at Tuscaloosa, 1836; an abstract of the annual return of the Ala. Militia, 1835; and numerous muster rolls. The muster rolls list volunteers in the Montgomery Invincibles; the Wilcox Cavalry; the 7th Division; the Tallassee Guards; Capt. George Rives' Company of the First Battlion, 15th Brigade; Capt. Littleberry Rogers Co. of Mounted Infantry and others. Some of these units may have been formed due to the Creek War. There appear to be no records relating to the 1836 Texas War.
